We visited many new communities throughout Florida and fell in love with one in particular.
Del Webb Oasis!
Why this one and not any of the other less expensive properties we encountered?
Well…..
- It’s so close to the Disney properties that you can see the fireworks from the backyard
- It’s a gated community which means keeping out the numnuts who like to leave donuts in every intersection
- It’s a 55+ community thus hopefully appealing to a more mature crowd not interested in leaving donuts in every intersection
- Large one story homes that appeal to my lack of desire to tromp up and down stairs, which loses its appeal each and every year
- Someone else takes care of the yard work – even though it is cheaper to buy all your own yard equipment and do the work yourself, I just don’t want to do it anymore
- An amenity center with exercise facilities and a pool so I don’t need to bother with either
- Community standards that keep the place looking nice – no backyard full of rotting furniture, rusting cars and abandoned appliances, which seems to be quite the popular pass time in parts of Florida
- It’s located in the fastest growing community in the US – new stores, malls, facilities and things to do are popping up almost daily
- Other Del Webb properties nearby, although close to local towns and such, still felt a little out of the way and at the end of a long road
So given all this it seemed like a perfect spot for us to rest our feet and hang our hat.
Had we stayed in the southwest we would likely be looking at increased droughts and floods over time. It can get a little hot here in the summer, but the rest of the year is nice.
Now we just need to survive in an apartment until the house is done.
